help please i feel crazy
a strange thing is happening to me while i'm driving lately.
i don't have a fear of driving. in fact, i used to enjoy it.
lately when I drive, especially on a longer road, all of a sudden I get the feeling that I'm loosing track of reality
and everything around me start to feel surreal.
at that point it feels like i might loose control or do something strange with my car, like drive in front of somebody,
which of course I would not do.
all this then leads to tremendous anxiety.

it has also happened in church and at the dentist.
everything is fine up to a point. then the strange feeling comes and then it feels like I might do something completely unsuitable in the situation like bite the dentist or scream in church.

am I going crazy. are these hallucinations? i have been drinking a lot lately. could it be that.
a friend mentioned that smoking can also trigger things like this.

what will help me?

Sounds like the anxiety-related symptoms of Depersonalization or Derealization. And that awful feeling that one might do someting outrageous, almost BECAUSE it would be awful, isn;t uncommon. These aren't hallucinations, but they are uncomfortable. Could be related to drinking a lot, especially when, as is usual, that means drinking a lot at some times, and less or none at others --- withdrawl from alcohol between drinking episodes can cause a range of such unpleasant symptoms. Best of all, would be to see a good local shrink for a proper assessment of the situaton, and treatment advice based on that. Like Bee, I think these could be a relative of anxiety / panic atacks, and this whole area of problems usually responds excellently to relatively simple treatment --- so don't postpone that visit to the shrink !
