IS Bipolar disorder hereditary
Hi CS,

Is Bipolar Disorder hereditary. My husbands'' sister was diagnosed, a few years ago, but have to admit that she's shown immense improvement in behaviour and thought over the years.

yes and no. It is hereditary in the sense that if others in the family have it, your risk of dveloping it is higher ; it is not ghereditary in the sense that you inevitably inherit it. Interestingly, when there are others in the family with the same depressive or bipolar disorder, they tend to respond best to the same treatments
