Just a remark
I’ve been divorced for just over 4 years now. I’m 45 years old and invariably the league that I play in consists of mostly divorced moms. It’s amazing how many of them have a story to tell about some sort of physical abuse. Some are so petit that it beats me how anyone could ever resort to lifting their hands to them.

I guess it depends on the example one gets growing up. My dad would also get quite cheesed off with my mom at times. If ever he got annoyed with her he’d go onto the stoep and lite his pipe. If he was really seriously annoyed he would lite his pipe twice. Maybe not the best form of resolving conflict, but it sure beats hitting a good woman. He’s not around anymore, but this is a tribute to him and other dads who set a sterling example to their sons.

Interesting example --- and another area in which pipe-smoking may have some advantage over cigarettes ! Such a pity that while our schools persist in carefully teaching such largely useless subjects as trigonometry and geometry, they don't really bother to teach conflict resolution techniques. And though men may be more liable to resort to physical violence, and may be relatively inarticulate during such conflict, women may be more skilled at verbal combat and just about as provocative and hurtful by tongue rather than by fist.
