Need help with my 10year old son
please tell me where to post my question, if this isnt the right forum. i have a 10 year old son in grade 5. he was always the smartest in his class and always acheived good marks in his previous grades.however, we had to move and he now is in a new school since the beginning of this year. He now seems to struggle with his home work and concentration and ability to understand simple tasks that he never had a problem with previously, and almost everytime get low marks in all his subjects.i want to know how me and husband can help him to achieve good marks again, without being too strict, because he starts to think that we dont allow him to do anything except schoolwork. We banned him from watching tv and playing pc games during the week. he does his homework at aftercare, and again studywhen he's at home, but we stll cant see any improvement, i feel it's too much and dont want him to feel that schoolwork is all he's doing and maybe grow to hate it later,or us for that matter for pushing him too hard. We really would like to help him but dont exactly know how and what to do.Could anyone please advice us?

Its interesting that apparently these problems with study and concentration arose purely after the move of homes and schools. Discuss with his new teachers whether they have advice as to how he might improve his study efficiency ; and try to shift from a program at home of DONT's, and limitations, to a program of rewards, encouragement and praise for any and all improvements he makes. As CIndy says, check whether a school psychologuist is available, to consult and advise. Useful responses all round, especially, perhaps, from Dad, who raises some fresh and highly valid suggestions
