So CS, are you saying the suggestion that the hypnotist can and does put in peoples's minds is what sybil's "therapist" did to "Sybil"? It makes me really scared to know that these people are out there doing that!!

In subtle, and not so subtle ways ( and, because they are mostly really badly trained, in ways they may not even recognize themselves, it is pathetically easy for a hypnotist ( all a hypnotic state is, after all, is a relaxed state of greatly heightened suggestibility -- being profoundly open to accept uncritically any suggestions made or even suggested to one ) ) to shape the subject's behaviour and thoughts. Especially when you arrive wanting them to find a particular something, or with expectations created by one of the books or films.
