Hello, Jane,
it ounds as though you may perhaps have a form of PTSD, a typical reaction to being exposed to trauma, and which may show itself promptly or some years later. And one can have a form of flashback, of remembering , almost reliving the unpleasant experiences, when soemthing reminds you of it, perhaps the windy days, for instance. See a shrink for a full assessment and discussion of treatment options, generally a modern antidepressant and counselling can make a big difference.
