Dear Kasandra,
Not that I know of. If there was a simple, practical and reliable way of doing so, it would be great news, widely shared, and would cause the bottom to drop out of the pharmaceutical market ! The only practical alternative way, which has been proven by good research, to relieve the symptoms of conditions like Depression, is Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This has been shown to be effective, and with lasting benefits. One wuld guess that it probably does include within its effects some normalisation of serotonin levels in the relevant brain areas, but this is not proved, as it would be awfully difficult technically to do so. ( not many people, understandably, would be keen to volunteer to have brain samples taken before and after treatment, to test this ! -- and indirect measures are not easy to use ).
