Think too much
Hi Doc,
I always was proud to have the photogrpahic memory that I have, but I have realised that it is more a curse than anything else. I have instant recall of events, conversations (good and bad) etc etc, but the thing is I have no control as to when these images enter my mind. I can simply be busy doing something and these bad memories / images (like a movie rerun) come into my mind and I cant push them away and this leads me to be in a very bad mood, depressed, defensive, insecure etc. Is there any medication or other way to almost deaden this and I cant cope with them anymore.

Interesting ideas, Genevieve. "Photographic" types of memory can be very handy, for instance, in preparing for exams ; but not always handy. But what you seem to be describing is a bit different from that. This sounds more like an obsessive-compulsive type of problem, with difficulty in having a useful sense of "enoughness" to set yourself free from getting stuck in fruitless ruminations on gloomy thoughts of past bad events. Medication wouldn't necesarily help. And attempts to go that route could leave you unpleasantly sedated if a GP or doc tried benzo sedative tranquillizers . What would help would be to see a good local shrink for a proper assessment. If this is indeed OCD or something very like it, then some antidepressants could help ; and CBT style counselling could also help you to regain control over unwelcome and unhelpful patterns of thought.
