What is Bi-Polar disorder?
What exactly is Bi-Polar disorder and how is it identified?? What are the symptoms??

I have tried to read up on this on the web and I do understand the basic symptoms I think but I just wanted to hear a little more from anyone out there who may know something, as well as CS.

Is it cureable? If so, how? And what causes it? Is it genetic?

Thanks!

DD, Check elsewhere in Health 24, in the Mind section, for more baasic information about Bipolar Disorder. I don't repeat such basic information in the Forum, or I'd repidly get bored out of my skull ! It's a mood disorder, in which one suffers both Depressions, and Manic episodes, as you must know by now. It can be treated both by specific drugs for each phase of the disorder, and by mood stabilizing drugs to reduce the swings of mood, to make them happen less often and to be less extreme if they do occur. It is partly genetic, in that if one of your parents had it, you are more likely to develop it ; and even more likely if BOTH barents had it --- but what you inherit isn't the full-blown disorder, but a weakness, a vulnerability, which if other factors lean in the same direction, may lead to the disoder. Like most medical conditions it is not curable, but controllable.
