am i feeding her right ?
have a grey... she is almost a year old. i give her cheese, which she loves, and a variety of dried fruit, pretzels, prunes, apple, chips and more in the am for breakfast and at night she gets cooked veg and meat ?
WR has already answered the question very well. I would stress that we recommend that at least 60 % of the diet should be a good quality pelleted diet, with fresh fruit and veggies making up 30% , and treats (high fat food, seeds, meat ect) the rest) Do not give the cooked chicken bone more than maximum once a week - they invariably eat the marrow only, which is basically pure cholesterol (a little is necessary for good health, but too much can contribute to atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries) as in humans). The best fruit and veggies are the most colorful varieties - yellows, reds, dark greens. Avos are a big NO -they contain a compound that is toxic to birds and leads to heart failure within 6-8 hours if the lethal dose is consumed. If you are cooking the veggies, ensure you cook them at a high heat for a short period of time (steaming is even better). Veggies that are boiled to death have most of the vitamins destroyed during the cooking process.
