Bull Mastiff Bitch in season - How long?
I have a bull mastiff bitch approx 10 mths old. She has come into season and I would like to know for how long her cycle lasts ie. how long must I keep her away from the male. We would like to breed with her, but only in a 2nd season. How many times a year do they come into season?
A tip for other doggy lovers. I have used old underpants, with a hole cut out for her tail to go thru... and wait for it, yes we have been using self adhesive sanitary towels for here. It works like a charm, no mess and she seems to like wearing the underpants!. Many thanks.

It may last two to three weeks. They are very susceptible to falling pregnant near the end, so that is especially when you've got to be vigilant, do not allow the male back with her too early. They tend to come into season more or less twice yearly. You are right to wait until she is more mature before she is allowed to fall pregnant. Are you sure that she must have puppies?? There is no physiological reason for them to must have puppies, so unless you have a good reason it will just bring more potentially unwanted puppies into the world. Obviously, if it is well planned and the puppies have a place to go where they will be looked after, then it is absolutely fine.
