care of new puppy
Dear Doc
I have just got a puppy of mixed breed. Something of everything -looks like border collie/jack russel. I think she is about 6 -7 weeks old. She was neglected, had runny tummy and worms. I have got the worm problem sorted out but the stools are still very loose. I give her tinned rice and chicken puppy food and pellets. She won't eat the pellets but loves marie biscuits. What is the best I can give her and how often and how much do I feed her? She is very active. She also scatches all the time mostly the same spot and her ear although she does not have any fleas. She had blue ticks, red ticks and fleas when she I got her but is now tick and flea clean. Could this be an allergy? I am new at this so will appreciated any help.

Thanks and regards

Please take your puppy to the vet for an examination and vaccination and deworming. Your vet can then identify any problems that need specific attention. He can also give you a diet to help clear up the diarrhoea, which is probably related to the diet and the worms. Depending on her size he can then also advise you how much to feed. A young puppy like that should eat at least four times per day. Your vet will be able to give the best advice once he has examined the specific puppy.
