During spaying of female dogs the whole of the uterus and the ovaries are removed and this stops them from having "seasons" in future. Neutered animals do become less active and if they continue to eat the same amoun of food they will put on weight. Some dog and cat food manufacturers now make food for neutered animals. Talk to your vet about this as they will be able to supply you.
