Doggie not smelling like a Rose!
Dear Cybervet
My cross maltese / terrier seems to be very well in all respects - lively, happy, eats well etc.
However, I wash her diligently and make sure she is dried thoroughly, but within a week she has a very very strong doggie smell (which is not pleasant). Her fur is very woolly at the moment with it being Winter. I don't brush her teeth, but they are beautifully vet and healthy. She has been given a good bill of health by the vet.
She eats ostrich & rice granules (made into a mush as she refuses to eat them dry) mixed with table scraps like vegetables (not potatoes) and sometimes a bit of meat, chicken or whatever. She drinks a lot of water. No fleas - on program.
The vet has expelled her glands, so I don't know if that is the prob? Should I be doing this myself?
She is a senior dog (7 years plus).
Thank you

You can ask your vet to show you how to express the anal glands to keep them cleared. Does the dog have wind as well or is it just a doggy coat smell? There are dog deodorizers available from your vet or Vet Shop. Does she roll in "muck" when outdoors?
