My 7 year old mixed bread dog gets attacks that looks like epylepsy. He shakes like crazy and his eyes are very wide open. He's not able to get up when he has these attacks. It lasts for a few minutes. After a while he seems to be ok again.

It certainly sounds like seizures. He do not tell us whether this is new in this particular dog, or whether it is a long-term condition. And all the dog that suddenly started with seizures should be investigated more thoroughly for underlying causes. These include blood tests and possibly x-rays or ultrasound examination to look for organ problems that may result in seizures. In some cases we will even do MRI scans of the brain. Obviously not all dogs are investigated to this extent, and it depends on the history and clinical findings.

The important thing as, that seizures should be treated. It is generally felt that severe seizures that are not treated will gradually worsen. In most cases treatment can be very successful with minimal side-effects. It is best to speak your veterinarian about the clinical examination and obtaining this medication.
