Male Cat diagnosed with blood disorder (anemic)
Please help. My gran inherited a lovely 6 year old male cat from friends. He is a small cat and does not pick up weight easily but seemed fine at the time. After she got him, he started losing patches of fur and was sneezing so she took him to her vet. The vet diagnosed the hair loss as stress, but then she saw his gums and eyes were unusually pale and so she tested his blood. She discovered he has a blood disorder that causes anemia. I cannot recall the scientific name, but my gran and I are very worried. I have never even heard of this happening, and we do not know what it is. He is staying at the vet for the next 5 days for treatment for his "cold" and the vet told us he will be fine but will need medication for the anemia. What is this? How can it be controlled? What does it do? Please give me information, or even websites I can visit for information, as this cat is precious and we wish to make his life comfortable. Are they born with it? Is this why he does not pick up weight? His appetite is also very poor. Thanks for the help.

I am afraid without more information (the name of the condition) I cannot help. They are many many conditions that can cause anaemia, and without more information I will only speculate. Please ask your vet for the name of the condition, and then post a fresh message, and I will gladly reply and give more information.
