Please help - urgent sick puppy
Hi everyone here,

I have a sick puppy at home and would like some information from anyone who can help.

He is a Jack russel (9 months old) and on Saturday evening and the whole night long he was going through a coughing spell, much like a cat with a hairball. It stopped for Sunday during the day, but then on Sunday evening it continued and on Monday morning he was still coughing, I had to go to work so I could only get him to the vet on Monday afternoon. She prescribed Syndox (not sure if the spelling is correct) and Pedinsone and also gave him two injections. She didn't really have an explanation as to what was wrong, he didn't have kennel cough either. I have given him all his medication as she told me to, but at this stage his condition has not improved at all.

I was wondering if any of you would know what was wrong with him?? Please reply as he is my baby!

Thank you

It sounds like acute tracheitis, commonly referred to as kennel cough. There are several viruses and bacteria that can cause kennel cough, and it is usually treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, as with your puppy. Remember that the coughing will not to suddenly stopped, it does take time to heal, just as it takes several days or weeks for people to stop coughing after the flu. Just whites that the cough does not get more moist, or the puppy becomes listless, in which case it should be taken back to your veterinarian.
