Scratching drives me nuts
Hi doc
I have a neutered X boerboel ,(5 yr ) he is allergic to grass ( as per vet , but I have a huge garden and he loves the grass !! ), had a heart worm , I had expensive treatments with my vet for years now,the cortisones ext doesn`t help ( even changed the dogfood brand )
He scratches himself so he bleeds , the hair under the chest doesn`t grow there anymore ! ( no flees I check ) Now lately he started being aggressive , already bit 2 people and I was thinking of putting him down - but I love him to bits - what can I get over the counter to eleviate the scratching ( Phenergan doesn`t do it , calamine is just temp , I need a ? good systemic med )

Cortizone is probably the only reliable systemic drug for relief of itching but it is symptomatic treatment only and dose not address the real cause. In severe cases animals can be given a course of injections to "desensitize" them to certain allergens. In some animals this is very effective.
