Tea tree oil shampoo

I have just got a new kitten who loves water, unlike my other cat. I have decided to give the little kitten a bath, the pet shop i went to recommended Tea tree oil shampoo. After buying the product a read a online article which said that tea tree oil is toxic to cats and mentioned incidents where it was fatal. is tea tree oil safe to use on my kitten or shouldnt i take the chance?

If there is evidence of death due to use on cats please don't use it and print the material out and take it to your pet-store owner. Your vet can supply you with a mild shampoo that you could use oin your kitten. Please remember that cats groom themselves very well and they will sit an lick themselves after being caught out in the rain. Anything we put on the coat will be taken in. That is why it is important to put spot-on treatments high up on the back of the cat's neck so that they can't lick it.
