Yowling Cat
One of my neighbours cats comes onto our ground and yells constantly at night (and day) keeping us awake. Is this a mating call? What can be done about this? It is getting too much and I am deprived of my sleep. HELP!

Hi Sleepy
It could well be a mating call, either a queen on heat or a tomcat calling a queen, but may also be a cat calling another cat to play or fight. Perhaps ask the owner to consider neutering the cat (if it isn't already neutered) and/or keeping it inside at night for a few weeks (with a litter tray). If you don't know who the owner is, then write a short polite note and make copies for all the neighbours. You can try to spray the cat with water or citronella solution using a water pistol or the hose. If you get no response from any owners and it continues, you could consider having the cat trapped and neutered by your local welfare organisation. Wallspikes and electric fences also help to keep cats out or in.
