9 yr old obsessed about food
Hi, I have a 9 year old daughter who normally during school terms are very active. Though now, during our summer vacation, she has become quite the sloth. Only wants to read, play in her room, or watch TV.
My concern is that she has become quite obsessed about food. We have never had issues and have been eating very healthy (GI diet). But she literally gets up from the table and starts planning what she wants for her next meal. She has gained some weight over the holiday because of this. I am scared of making a big issue of this, because of young girls getting eating disorders. But am now a little stumped in what to do and how to handle this.
Please help

Dear Worried Mom
It is possible that your daughter's sudden obsession with food is due to underlying psychological problems, that may have emerged during the long summer vacation where she may have felt lonely and/or depressed. Seeking comfort in food is usually linked to psychological problems. It may be a good idea to have your lassie assessed by a child psychologist. Also try to get her involved with school activities again and sport so that she does at least 1 hour of physical activity every day. Exercise not only helps to control weight, but is regarded as one of the most valuable solutions to child overweight. You may need to arrange for her to join a gym, swimming classes, etc, to ensure that she can be an active, happy child again.
Best regards
