Dear Megs
That actually depends on the type of cholesterol test that is used to determine you cholesterol level. If you have had such a test, then the laboratory who does the test will supply you with the value or reading of your test plus the normal range they are working in. The normal range will be determined by your age, sex and how many risk factors you have. Krause (2000) states that a total cholesterol level of less than 200 mg/dl or 5.2 mmol/litre is regarded as normal.
