Dear Leonnie
I would check in your local telephone book under 'Diabetes' as most cities have a branch of the Diabetes Association. You could also phone the Red Cross Children's Hospital in CT for information. If you click on 'Disease Centres' on this Website and search for Diabetes you will also find a lot of helpful information. I ALWAYS advise all patients with diabetes to consult a clinical dietitian as the dietitian will have to work out a specific diet for the child's condition which takes all his/her individual factors into account (age, weight, overweight, activity, type of medication, nutrient needs for growth, etc). Check the List of Dietitians on this Website or phone 082-593-0276 or send an e-mail to or look in your local telephone directory or Yellow Pages, to find a dietitian in your area. The mother will benefit greatly from such a consultation because in the case of diabetes, the correct diet will be one of the most important aspects of the child's treatment.
Best regards
