Diet for young swimmer
I am a boy, 11 years old. I am a Provincial Swimmer and practise 1-2 hours everyday. I swim regular Galas. I also work very hard at school. Please tell me what to eat everyday to keep healthy and energetic.

Thank you

Dear Robert
Wow you lead a busy life. You need to eat plenty of milk, yoghurt and cheese, eggs, lean meat, fish and chicken, wholewheat bread, brown rice, pasta made from 100% Durum wheat, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and some soft polyunsaturated margarine and olive oil. Concentrate on eating lots of carbohydrates to provide sufficient energy for all that activity. You can also use energy drink like Powerade or Energade just before, during and just after strenuous exercise or training to replenish your energy stores. There are also certain products such as Ensure or Nutren which you can buy at the pharmacy and use when you feel you need an additional energy boost.
Good luck with the swimming
