Dear Kenzo
I do not have a specific diet for HIV. HIV responds well if you eat a balanced diet which is high in energy (maize meal, wholewheat bread, sorghum, crushed maize, sugar, jam) and protein (meat, milk, yoghurt, fish, eggs and dry cooked beans, peas and lentils) and protective nutrients (fresh fruit and vegetables). You should be able to obtain the guidelines published by the Dept of Health on 'Nutritional Guidelines for People Living with HIV-AIDS' from your local clinic or phone the Dept of Health in Pretoria and ask them where you can obtain a copy.
Another option is to use liquid meal supplements in addition to the normal foods you eat to boost your immunity and keep your weight constant. Fresenius-Kabi may be able to advise which meal supplement is best for your condition (phone (011) 203-2000) or phone Nestle Consumer Services at 086-009-6789 and ask them about their liquid meals. According to the Dietary Guidelines for People Living with HIV/AIDS the use of multivitamin supplements may be beneficial. These Guidelines state that deficiencies of protein, vitamins A, C and E, the B group (esp B6) and certain minerals (selenium and zinc) may complicate HIV. You could take a multivitamin and mineral supplement, such as Centrum or Supradyn, but it may be a good idea to first discuss this with the clinic or drs who are treating you. I speak under correction, but do think that the sooner you start taking ARVs the better.
Best regards
