Eating advise for Iron
I had a blood test and which revealed my red blood cells (oxygen in my blood) to be slightly below the normal level. the doctor told me that i'm slightly anaemic. i would like to know the kind of food i should eat. so far, my mother suggested that i eat liver and spinach. how can i improve my condition except drinking of the pills (i.e. Autrin) for building more iron in my blood?

Dear Serurubele
The following foods are all excellent sources of iron: all meats, especially beef, lamb and pork, all organ meats like liver and kidneys, fish, egg yolks and dried fruit esp raisins. Spinach contains a lot of iron, but it is not in a form that is easily absorbed by the body. Most ready-to-eat cereals like cornflakes also contain added iron. It is also a good idea to eat fruits and vegetables which contain a lot of vitamin C (oranges, lemons, grapefruit, naartjies, pawpaw, guava, cabbage, broccoli, green peppers) together with the iron-rich foods, because vit C helps the body to absorb the iron.
