Gall Bladder Removal
Hi My husband has to have his gall bladder removed within the next week. What dietary recommendations or programme would he need to adhere too to assist with the functions that the gall bladder did? What foods can he eat and which are best to avoid and would he need medication?
Manyt thanks

Dear Smartie
Generally the removal of the gallbladder should not really affect food intake once the post-operative period is past. During the post-operative period he would need to have a light, low-fat diet (jelly, fat-free milk and yoghurt, custard made with fat-free milk, canned or fresh fruit, toast, scrambled egg, etc). If he should find that he tends to get nauseous once he has recovered from the op then he may need a low-fat diet for awhile. Click on 'Diet' at the top of this page and then on 'You are what you eat' and read the articles on 'Gallbladder'. The surgeon will prescribe any medications that he may require.
Wishing your hubby all the best for his op
