Dear James
Veggies like spinach have a very high iron content, but it is unfortunately not available to the human body because the iron is bound to chemicals called phytates. The best sources of readily available iron are red meat, liver, poultry, fish (these 4 are also good sources of vit B12), egg yolk and iron-enriched breakfast cereals and bread plus dried fruit, esp raisins. The symptoms of iron- or B12-deficiency are tiredness, listlessness, pale mucous membranes, lack of energy, problems with concentration, breathlessness. If you suspect that you suffer from either of these deficiencies then it is important for you to have blood tests done by your medical dr.
Best regards
