Kilos gained in first three months of pregnancy
I am currently 13 weeks pregnant and gained 3 kilos. An overall weight gain is usually given when asking questions such as, how much weight am I suppose to gain" but I would like to know whether I'm on the right track or am I gaining weight too fast.
Dear Jenny
That all depends on how much you weighed when you fell pregnant! In total it is advisable for women with a normal BMI at the start of pregnancy to gain 11.5 to 16 kg over the 9 months (this works out to about 1,3 to 1,8 kg per month). If you are going to gain the minimum amount of 11.5 kg then you would probably have gained 3.9 kg in 13 weeks, so your 3 kg gain seems to be perfectly normal.
