Dear Jules
You are correct that there are so-called ground nuts of which peanuts are probably the most important example and tree nuts such as pecan, macadamia, walnuts, etc. All nuts, including peanuts, are high in plant protein, and fat, esp polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats which are protective against heart disease. Nuts are, however, rich in energy and fat (for example, mixed nuts contain 2528 kJ and 54.7g of fat per 100g), so you need to eat small portions (about 30g) if you are trying to lose weight. If you should have a nut allergy you would need to avoid these foods carefully.
