obesity and uticeria
My mother in law suffers from advance uticeria, for about 7 years. She is constantly itchy scratching chunks of skin from her body. She is also obese - bad eating habits. Is there any possibility this could be alleviated if she lost weight (She is about 80 kgs overweight)
Dear Odette
There is no link between the severity of the symptoms of urticaria and obesity, but please take her to a Dermatologist for the correct treatment of her skin as she cannot go on scratching chunks of skin out of her body (this can lead to secondary infections and all manner of other problems). For her to lose weight she needs to you need to basically change her lifestyle. She can reduce her energy intake by eating an energy-reduced, low-fat, high-fibre diet (click on 'Diet' at the top of this page, 'Weight loss' , ‘Balanced diet' and then on 'Slimming Diet' for a copy of such a diet), and increasing her energy output by doing regular exercise (running, jogging, skipping, cycling, swimming, join a gym or Walk for Life).
Best regards
