Pain
Dear Doctor,
I have been having problems for 7 years. Sometimes I get swollen when I eat. This may be accompanied by mild or severe pain, depending on the occasions. Sometimes I feel severe pain in my bowels too, especially in the left side. I suffer from constipation and too much gas. My biggest problem is that I can't help it come out. It's like the anus is closed. Why does this happen? It also affects my heart or the diagram, because sometimes I feel pain there too.

Dear 22
From the symptoms you describe, I think you may be suffering from Irritable Bowel Disease (IBS). You urgently need to have a medical checkup so that we can get a diagnosis as to what is causing your symptoms and so that the dr can prescribe any medical treatment that may be required. The dr will be able to prescribe medications that relieve gas and treat the IBS. If you should suffer from IBS then I would recommend that you see a clinical dietitian (visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area) who will assist you with an IBS diet. But let's first get that diagnosis (you could have other conditions that cause the same symptoms), and then we can see what dietary changes you need to make.
Best regards
