Probiotics in the treatment of wheat allergy symptoms
In '95 i was diagnosed as being allergic to wheat. Since then i have suffered alot from diarrhoea and nausea despite being chronically on Texa 10 (Zyrtec). I am currently sick and have been on and off for the last six months. I went to a pharmasist today who gave me Pectrolyte. Would probiotics help me at all? I am at my wits end and would like to live without suffering from this ailment. Any help would be much appreciated.
Dear Gareth
I am really sorry to hear about your problem. Do you still get the symptoms when you cut out ALL wheat? If yes, then I would consult a physician to see if you don't have additional complications. If not, then, as hard as it is, you MUST cut out ALL WHEAT. I know this is difficult in the modern world, but your health and happiness depends on it. It is difficult to cut out all wheat as thousands of processed foods contain wheat. Please see a clinical dietitian (check the List of Dietitians on this Website or phone 082-593-0276 or send an e-mail to sscharf@nhcltd.com or look in your local telephone directory or Yellow Pages, to find a dietitian in your area). The dietitian help you to work out a diet that is wheat-free, but still provides you with all the nutrients you require. It will really help you because, the dietitian will guide you with your food selections and give you ideas on what foods you can eat. In the meanwhile, click on 'Diet' at the top of this page and then on 'Food-related diseases' and read the articles on 'Wheat allergy' for more information. Probiotics such as Intestiflora may help to get your digestive system back to normal in these sense that it has been constantly disrupted by the allergic reactions, but to PREVENT further flare-ups you need to change your diet.
Best regards
