protein
i'm 16 years old and i'm taking whey protein as a supplement to build muscle. i'm taking 2g/kg of body weight. i would like to know if this could cause me problems later in life?
Dear Mark
If you ingest too much protein at any time in your life then it could harm your kidneys. In general most South Africans eat more than enough protein anyway so we don't really need protein supplements. Your muscles will develop if you are doing enough exercise with weights. Also remember that carbohydrates are 'protein-sparing' so don't neglect your carbs and make sure that you eat plenty of wholewheat bread, pasta, fruit, vegetables, brown rice, cereals, etc to provide you with sufficient energy for your workouts.
Good luck
