Dear Loks
To lose weight you need to cut down on your fat intake (37 kJ per gram) so this would also mean being careful when you eat the meat you need for your iron intake to combat the anaemia. Use very lean meat, venison or poultry, but cut off all visible fat and don't eat poultry skin. Make sure that the way you prepare meat does not add extra fat to your intake (grill or stew meat and remove the fat that collects on top of the stew). Other foods that are rich in iron include breakfast cereals, maize meal and bread enriched with iron, fish, and dried fruits, esp raisins. You can also use an iron-folic acid supplement like Ferro-Folic to ensure that your iron stores are replenished. Reduce your energy intake by eating an energy-reduced, low-fat, high-fibre diet (click on 'Diet' at the top of this page, 'Weight loss', ‘Balanced diet’ and then on 'Slimming Diet' for a copy of such a diet)/
Keep up the good work at the gym by concentrating on doing aerobic exercises (running, jogging, skipping, cycling, swimming, join a gym or Walk for Life) which burn more energy and also ask the instructor for specific exercises that target the hips and thighs.
