Salt intake
What effect does salt have on your blood pressure? How much is to much?
Dear Ken
Sodium which is found in table salt and other spices like garlic salt, MSG and Aromat, and many processed, pickled and smoked foods, can increase blood pressure, particularly in those patients who are 'salt sensitive' and all hypertension diets recommend reducing sodium intake. For the general population it is recommended that we should not ingest more than 3 g of sodium a day from all sources and for hypertensives sodium intake should in most cases be restricted to less than 1 g per day. Salt sensitive patients should try to have a sodium-free diet.
Best regards
