slow metabolism?
I cycle 4 times a week anywhere between 30 - 60mins, and if I eat anything over 1000 cals a day - I put on weight. Do I have a slow metabolism? what could it be?
Dear Joe
I must say that I find it strange that you should gain weight if you exercise so regularly and eat so little. The first thing I would recommend, is that you have a medical checkup to see if you suffer from hormone imbalances (thyroid or insulin). If this should be the case, the dr will prescribe thyroid hormone supplements or medication to counteract the insulin resistance. If you do suffer from insulin resistance then you need to consult a clinical dietitian (check the List of Dietitians on this Website or phone 082-593-0276 or send an e-mail to sscharf@nhcltd.com or look in your local telephone directory or Yellow Pages, to find a dietitian in your area), because the correct diet is an essential component of the treatment of this condition.
