Soya Healthy or NOT
Well i am sure you noticed that there is an increase amount of Soya foods in market for people like myself who are moving from Meat eating to a more vegetarian diet. However i have read that Soya is harmful to the body. Is there any truth to this. To what extent should Soya be consumed. Are there serious health risks...
Dear IndianPrince
If you read the article I wrote awhile ago which was published on the DietDoc site re: "Soya- Healthy or Harmful?" then you would see that the general consensus is that soya eaten as part of a balanced diet that contains a variety of other foods is not harmful. In cases such as infants who are put on an exclusively soya based formula, there is the risk that the high levels of phyto-oestrogens could interfere with their future sexual development. There is also some evidence that high intakes of soya products could have a negative effect on thyroid function and that it could stimulate breast cancer in women who are prone to oestrogen-sensitive tumours, but we are still waiting for research results to clarify these issues. So if you eat a balanced diet then there should be no problem if you include some soya products as well.
Best regards
