Steroids and Diets
I know of someone who has cut out all carbs in his diet. He eats no bread, no fruit, no sugar, no milk - in fact the only food he eats is meat and veg. He is eating 4 - 5 meals a day. He goes to gym 5 days a week and works out hard. He is drinking a lot of supplements and he has also 'talked' his wife into eating the same diet; however, she only gets to gym about once a week. He has gained a lot of muscle. I don't think the diet is good for her (she is small and petite and has low blood pressure - always feels like fainting! I recently found out that he is injecting himself with steroids! First of all, how does one get hold of these drugs -surely you cannot just buy them over the counter, and what are the long term effects of taking steroids? I am horrified!

Dear Horrified
I apologise for only answering your question today, but I had to have an operation last Wednesday, and although I informed the boffins who administer the Message Board, they failed to block incoming messages while I was in hospital.
I must admit that I am also rather taken aback that this individual has gained access to steroids. But there are always unscrupulous people around who will provide anything that the patient or often the sportsman asks for. Taking steroids may lead to kidney and liver failure, intense aggression, violence, mood swings, depleted immune response, etc, etc.
Hopefully your friend will stop doing such harm to his body both with the steroids and the high-fat, high-protein diet.
Best regards
