What do you do at parties/functions?
I am a following an eating plan designed by my dietitian. On this I have managed to loose a lot of weight. I 've also managed to make it part of my life at home. The problem starts when there is a function to attend - there seem to be a lot of these all of a sudden. I cannot believe how much oil people use! Every single vegetable dish/salad seems to be enriched with butter/oily dressing.

I find this situation difficult as I am sometimes really hungry, or feel it would be very rude to eat nothing at all.

How do other people handle the party/function situation?

I hear what you say and agree that catering at functions needs a face lift - not only do they generally not provide a choice of non-alcoholic drinks, but all the food is far too rich and fatty. I can only suggest that if possible, you eat some healthy, low-fat food before you go to these functions and stick to drinking non-alcoholic, unsweetened drinks. Then select the least 'dangerous' dishes and eat very small quantities. You can always make the excuse that you are "allergic" to the most offending foods, or presently suffering from a tummy upset. Then the hostess won't get to feel bad and you won't need to ruin your diet.
