What to eat when travelling by air
I will be travelling by air soon (overseas).
What do I eat to make sure I am not uncomfortable when travelling. I do not want to use the
toilets unless I have to. How many days before travelling do I watch what I eat? Thanks.

Dear Shani
I know that the toilets on air planes are not very nice, but please don't try and last out for 12 hours or however long your flight will be. You should at least urinate during this period and if you drink sufficient fluids to prevent dehydration during the flight (a common occurrence because of the air conditioning and the altitude), then you will have to urinate. If you want to avoid having a bowel motion then you need to cut out all foods that are rich in dietary fibre for about 3 days before the flight (while grains, cereals and breads, fibrous fruit and vegetables, and legumes). It is, however, better to allow your body to continue with its normal processes when you travel rather than to cause an upset such as constipation at a time when you want to enjoy yourself. Take some air spray (plastic bottle), wet wipes, your own soap and a small towel along in your cabin luggage and make the toilet you use a nicer, cleaner place.
Enjoy your travels
