I have started with Xenical tablets. Can you help me with a suitable diet. Is there any hidden agenda that I must know of when using these tablets. Why is these tablets so expensive? Surely then they must work!

Dear Lulu
Xenical is a true fat-trapper and it ensures that most of the dietary fat you eat passes straight out of the body. As this can cause loose stools it is advisable to eat a practically fat-free diet while you are taking this medication. This means: use only fat-free milk, yoghurt and cottage cheese (no other cheeses); very lean meat and fish with all visible fat and skin removed (grill or poach - don't add any fat while cooking and no sauces, mayonnaise, etc), plenty of fruits and vegetables (no mayonnaise, salad dressing, butter, margarine, sour cream, or avocado), wholewheat or unsifted grains and cereals and breads. Avoid any form of fat (margarine, oil, salad dressing, cream, nuts) and all processed foods such as (chips, snacks, cakes, pies, cookies - they all contain lots of fat). It is also a good idea to take a vitamin supplement that contains all the fat-soluble vitamins (A, E, D and K) - ask the prescribing dr and the chemist. The tablets are so expensive because the pharmaceutical company spent many years and millions of dollars on the development and testing of this product. The price will probably come down when the initial licencing agreement comes to an end (usually about 10 years). These tablets when used with a very-low-fat diet and regular exercise do really help with weight loss, esp if you have a large amount of weight to lose.
Good luck
