Toxocariasis infection is caused by Toxocara roundworms commonly found in dogs and cats. People (especially children) get infected when they swallow the eggs from soil or other contaminated surfaces. This can be prevented by having pets regularly de-wormed, and practising good basic hygiene, especially handwashing after contact with pets.
