Dear J

A woman is most fertile at the time of ovulation. In a regular 28-day cycle ovulation normally takes place on and around day 14. However, this day is not always exact and therefore the most fertile period for a woman who has a 28-day cycle would be between day 12 and day 18 of her cycle. There are various tests available to assess when is ones most fertile period, such as an ultra sound used to assess for follicular development. Another method is the use of basal body temperature (where a special thermometer is required). I believe the easiest method available today is the urinary LH test. This urinary test is used to assess elevated levels of LH in the urine and ovulation normally takes place 24 to 36 hours after this LH surge. When ovulation has taken place, that is the most fertile time
