Fertility & Bestum MultiVitamin
My wife was recommended to stop using a MultiVitamin named Bestum which we bought from a reputable Chemist. She was told that it is not recommended while we are trying to have a baby. Is this true, or is it only a way of trying to sell something else to us. If she stop using the Bestum Multi Vitamin, i don't think we would use another Multi Vitamin.

Everytime we buy a MultiVatimin at one Chemist, the next one tells us it is no good & tries to sell one of their products. This is crazy. Should she continue using the Bestum Multi Vitamin or forget about Multi Vitamins altogether?

Dear Fed up husband

In numerous previous postings I have made the point that vitamin supplementation has not been scientifically proven to enhance fertility, unless there is a definite dietary deficiency or mal-absorption of important vitamins and trace elements. However, vitamin supplementation has been punted by many fertility specialists who have their own private interests in such supplementation. I would strongly discourage this practice. However, under very specialised circumstances vitamin and trace element supplementation may be of benefit in enhancing egg quality and the quality of embryos, as well as improve the capacity for implantation. Most over the counter multi-vitamin preparations usually contain most of the important substances and therefore there is very little to choose between the diverse preparations on the market. A simple folic acid supplementation is all that is really important and any other multi-vitamin would suffice.
