Dear Simone

The miscarriage rate for IVF should not be greater than for someone who fell pregnant naturally, age for age. The apparent increase in miscarriage rate in IVF is due to the following. First the IVF pregnancies or cycles are monitored much more carefully and early and bio-chemical pregnancies are noted as pregnancies and if they do not continue they are regarded as a miscarriage. In somebody who is trying naturally to fall pregnant it is very often that these type of early pregnancies and early pregnancy losses do occur as well, however they go unnoticed and just abort in their next period or have a slightly late menstrual cycle and would actually have an abortion and that will go unnoticed.
