I ovulated on Friday, 14 July. My gynea suggested that we have intercourse on the Friday and the Saturday. We only had ontercourse on Saturday. I always let the semen run out and then cleaned up, but on Saturday I made sure I kept everything inside. On Monday when we were busy with foreplay, my husband had this very thick white stuff from my vagina on his finger - and lots of it too, (quite disgusted he was). What can this be? The ovulation discharge or the fluid that semen swim in.
Or could it be a sign that we conceived on Saturday?

If anyone can help this would be appreciated.

Dear Mandy

There are several possibilities for the thick white discharge, including a vaginal infection, eg thrush (candida)
It is also possible that the discharge is associated with ovulation mucous. The discharge is not an associated sign of conception. It is important to note that the ejaculate contains not only seminal fluid , but also the important spermatozoa. Following ejacualtion, the seminal fluid is meant to be retained in the vagina or if allowed to flow out will not in any way affect conception. The seminal plasma function is mainly in a nutritive role for the sperm which does not require seminal plasma once it enters the cervical canal.
The sperm are motile and are able to travel the internal genital tract without any need for seminal plasma which can be removed from the vagina shortly after intercourse without adverse effect on fertility or fertilisation.
