Please explain - ovarian cyst
Hello doc. I wander if you can help me.
When in the cycle would a corpus luteam cyst be present? What is usually the size of a clomid induced (50mg days 5 - 9) follicle? When in the cycle does the endometrium start thickening?
I went for a scan at my doctor on day 18 of my clomid cycle. She said the endometrium is thick (like AF should arrive soon) & there was a cyst on my right ovary measuring 2.1cm which is apparantly normal & she said she often sees it in an early pregnancy of around 5 weeks. If AF arrives I have to go back for a scan to check if the cyst is still there. I want to know how common this corpus luteum cyst is & is 2.1cm the right size? Could it be possible that it was a follicle about to ovulate?

Dear SLC
A corpus luteum cyst is a natural occurrence from ovulation. However, it is important to distinguish between corpus luteum cysts and other cysts of the ovary, which are also very common. Sometimes a corpus luteum cyst may look similar to a follicle in the early stages. However, an experienced gynaecologist can easily tell the difference and I would suggest you continue on the advice of your gynaecologist.
