Vasectomy reversal
What is the success rates in SA of vasectomy reversals, and what are the costs involved?
Dear Bandy
Success of reversal depends on the definition of success. If it is simply to secure the presence of sperm in the ejaculate then this would be a high figure of close to 90%. However if the intention is natural conception, unfortunately this figure is extremely low and in most cases will need assisted reproductive technology such as IVF/ICSI. The costs of reversal is variable from centre to centre and if conception is desired then added cost of invitro fertilisation needs to be factored into the cost benefit analysis.
