WANTING ANOTHER BABY
My husband and I would like to have a baby. I am 40. I have 2 kids, both were born when i was in my early 20's, normal birth no complications. I used to smoke, for the last 20 years but have given up smoking, a month now. In April this year I miscarried at 13 weeks. Please advise if I can what precautions and necessary steps can I take to ensure a healty pregnancy.
Dear AVI
The risk of miscarriages increase with increasing age and therefore not much can be done about this aspect. The risk of chromosomal abnormalities increase and therefore these should be screened in early and mid pregnancy. From a preventative aspect there is not much can be done except lifestyle modification i.e. improve diet and general health.
